Embassy Statement on the successful Afghanistan Presidential Runoff Election
Ottawa: His Excellency Sham L. Bathija, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Canada congratulates fellow countrymen for their participation in runoff presidential election of Afghanistan. According to the Election Commission of the country, people took part in great numbers.
Despite the enormity of the challenges and security related warning and threats, people showed up to vote in huge numbers.
Millions cast their ballots, but unfortunately a few paid heavy price.
For the people of Afghanistan this is a big step forward and one of the important and only way towards prosperity and democratically elected Government and prosperous future.
Afghanistan National Security forces showed a great deal of courage, pride, hard work and leadership, to make this runoff happen, without them, the election wouldn’t be possible, we are thankful to all of them.
On this very happy day we should thank the two leading candidates for their commitment towards democratic and peaceful electoral process.
