Ambassador Bathija met with Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
On June 16, His Excellency Sham L. Bathija, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Canada met with the Honourable Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration of Canada.
During the meeting Minister Alexander congratulated the People of Afghanistan for the Successful runoff election and shared his perspectives on the importance of this election for the future of Afghanistan. He also praised the two candidates to continue with their commitment on democratic and peaceful process.
Ambassador Bathija also thanked him for his personal support and of Canadians in all aspect in Afghanistan, and conveyed distinctive gratitude of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and of Minister of Foreign Affairs to Minister Alexander.
After the meeting Ambassador Bathija presented him with the gifts from H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the I. R. of Afghanistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Zarar Ahmad Osmani, which he had carried with him from Kabul to Ottawa.
Minister Alexander previously served as first Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan, later as Deputy Special Representative of the United National Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and also as Chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Afghanistan in Canadian Parliament.
