Meeting with Afghan Diaspora in Quebec and Grieving on the Afghanistan Landslide Disaster
H.E. Sham L. Bathija, Ambassador E. P.P. and Special envoy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, visited Montreal on Sunday May 11, 2014 to meet with Afghan community members to express his Sorrow and condolences on the landslide disaster in Aab Khosk village of Argo district of Badakhshan province that took live of around 300 of innocent people.
This event was participated by about 200 community members from Montreal and other Quebec Cities. Afghans present at the event showed their solidarity and sympathy their country man and women in Argo-Badakhshan.
Ambassador Bathija talked about the disaster and challenges people face every day in Afghanistan and mentioned that Afghanistan needs all kinds of assistance and support, especially from our fellow Afghans around the world. He also mentioned the support of the Government of Afghanistan for this tragic disaster and H.E. President Karzai, Vice presidents, Ministers and other high ranking official have visited the disaster zone.
Ambassador Bathija also mentioned to the Afghans that this is the time to reach out and provide generous support to the people in Argo who needs them the most. At this event the community, so far have raised about 15 thousand Canadian dollors.
The government of Afghanistan has established a special account accessible to all Afghans and Canadians alike.
